HSKK Beginner format

The Beginner paper has 27 questions in three parts and takes about 17 minutes, including 7 minutes to prepare part 3. The first two parts are heard and answered straight away; part 3 is printed — with pinyin — and you have a minute and a half for each question.

How to answer each part of HSKK Beginner

Part 1 · 听后重复 (Listen and repeat)

Listen for meaning, not sounds: a sentence you understood is one you can rebuild. Start speaking as soon as it ends — the longer you wait, the more slips away. If you lose a word, keep going; a sentence with one gap still scores most of its points, a silence scores none.

Part 2 · 听后回答 (Listen and answer)

Answer what was asked, in a sentence: 你几点起床? → 我七点起床。 One correct sentence is a full answer at this level. If you didn’t catch the question, answer the part you did catch rather than saying nothing.

Part 3 · 回答问题 (Answer the question)

Use your preparation time to note three points, not a script. Open with a direct answer, add a reason and an example, then close. Keep talking until the time is up: an answer that stops at twenty seconds cannot score as a developed answer, however correct it is.

What Chinese HSKK Beginner expects

The 2026 HSK syllabus describes HSK 1–2 speaking as asking and answering simple questions: your name, age and family, times and places, what you like to eat, how you get somewhere, what something costs, how you feel. That is exactly what Beginner tests — short, correct sentences about everyday life, not long ones.

Every sentence, question and model answer in these sets stays inside the HSK 1–2 word lists. Learn the HSK 1 words and the HSK 2 words out loud, and you have the vocabulary the paper uses.

How your practice answers are scored

Each answer gets a score out of 100. Repeating and reading aloud are measured: how much of the text came back, in order, and how smoothly. The other parts are read by an AI examiner told the level, the task and the time you had; it scores whether you did what was asked and how good your Chinese is, and fluency is measured from the pauses in your recording.

Anyone can listen to every question and read every model answer. Recording and scoring need a free account, which gets one scored answer a day; Monthly and Lifetime score every answer with no daily limit. Your recording is never stored.
