The Intermediate paper has 14 questions in three parts and takes about 23 minutes, including 10 minutes to prepare parts 2 and 3. Part 1 is heard and repeated; the pictures and the questions are printed, and you have two minutes for each.

How to answer each part of HSKK Intermediate
Part 1 · 听后重复 (Listen and repeat)
Listen for meaning, not sounds: a sentence you understood is one you can rebuild. Start speaking as soon as it ends — the longer you wait, the more slips away. If you lose a word, keep going; a sentence with one gap still scores most of its points, a silence scores none.
Part 2 · 看图说话 (Describe the picture)
Say what you see first — who, where, what they are doing — then go beyond the picture: why they might be there, how they feel, whether it reminds you of something. That second half is what separates a pass from a good score.
Part 3 · 回答问题 (Answer the question)
Use your preparation time to note three points, not a script. Open with a direct answer, add a reason and an example, then close. Keep talking until the time is up: an answer that stops at twenty seconds cannot score as a developed answer, however correct it is.
What Chinese HSKK Intermediate expects
At HSK 3–4 the syllabus moves from answering to telling: introducing a person or a place, describing an experience, explaining a choice, giving a simple opinion about daily life, work, health or the environment — “a short paragraph” rather than a sentence. Intermediate asks you to keep that going for two minutes.
These sets stay inside the HSK 1–4 word lists. The HSK 4 word list is the one to drill out loud.
How your practice answers are scored
Each answer gets a score out of 100. Repeating and reading aloud are measured: how much of the text came back, in order, and how smoothly. The other parts are read by an AI examiner told the level, the task and the time you had; it scores whether you did what was asked and how good your Chinese is, and fluency is measured from the pauses in your recording.
Anyone can listen to every question and read every model answer. Recording and scoring need a free account, which gets one scored answer a day; Monthly and Lifetime score every answer with no daily limit. Your recording is never stored.
HSKK questions
How many questions are in HSKK Intermediate?
14: 10 sentences to repeat, 2 pictures to describe and 2 printed questions, with two minutes for each picture and question.
How long should a picture description be?
Use the two minutes. A strong answer describes what is in the picture, then goes beyond it — the model answers here run 150–250 characters.
Is HSKK Intermediate harder than HSK 4?
It uses fewer words than HSK 4 reading, but you have to produce them yourself, at speaking speed. Most HSK 4 candidates find the two-minute answers the hard part, not the vocabulary.
Which vocabulary should I study?
The HSK 1–4 lists; every line in these sets stays inside them.
HSK 4 vocabularyIs this HSKK practice free?
Listening to every recording and reading every question and model answer is free, with no account. Recording and scoring an answer needs a free account, which gets one scored answer a day; Monthly and Lifetime score without a daily limit.
See plansAre these real HSKK questions?
No — they are original questions written to the HSKK paper format and kept inside the HSK 3.0 word lists for each level. Past papers are CTI’s copyright; these are practice in the same shape.
Do you keep my recordings?
No. A recording is sent once, transcribed, scored and discarded. Only the transcript and the scores are saved to your account.
